A collaborative project for the kids

Camp Stoked was founded by Timmy Taussig & Nic Jacobson in the charming village of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island in 2021.
Timmy & Nic’s stoked for board sports is what we could call contagious, so they decided to share it with the community, & especially the local youth.
The goal of these camps is to inspire & give the kids an outlet through surf & skate in a safe & fun environment.
Camp stoked is honored to work with the youth from Tla-o-qui-aht & Ahousaht first nation. Bringing skateboards and with the help of many amazing volunteers, Camp Stoked has been going to their local skate parks & brought the kids together from all ages to inspire them. A great way for them to make friends, build self-esteem and hopefully discover a new passion.
We, at Rieka Apparel, we believe in surf and skate therapy & we want to support Camp Stoked in raising money to be able to get more gear, more camps and of course more stoked!!!
We have created a cool camp stoked collection and are giving back every time we sell a garment. All profits of this collection is going to create more camps in 2023. How exciting!
We hope to expand the camps to a larger region in 2023.

Help us & spread the love.

The MAS MONTRÉAL X LOUVE t-shirt : The story

"We met at our first One of a Kind show in Toronto. Let’s say we clicked!!  In my perfect world, where I see everyone happy and fulfilled, all women collaborate and help each other. As soon as I have a crush on another entrepreneur, I try to find a way to collaborate, or expose them to my market of Louves (great and conscientious women).

I’m always curious to know about other women entrepreneurs like me. Because it takes determination and a lot of passion to persevere. This union allows us to present ourselves to our different communities & it helps us to propel ourselves, because together we have more power and more fun.

I chose this model from MAS, because I find it perfect. Simple, but special. I am very pleased to introduce this talented designer, McKenna. "

#1: SLEEP

It is when you recharge, heal & boost your immune system.

A good 7-8H (minimum) of sleep, will make you more focused, happy, responsive, patient. You will also crave less of the salty & sugary foods around you during the holidays. It will also help in balancing hormones. YAY

Deep sleep also removes toxins & enhances cognitive function.

#2: DRINK (more than alcohol)

Water helps your body detox & is essential to all our body functions. And let's be honest here, travelling can make us dehydrated, so we need to increase the water intake a bit during the holidays.

You can also choose the cucumbers, melons, grapes, bell peppers, & fruits, and drink an herbal tea instead of a 3rd coffee to help your hydration ;)

#3: Reverse Alcoholic effects

Of course, we all drink a bit more than usual, but how about picking the less artificial drinks during this time to minimize the negative effects of alcohol.

Here are a few tips on what to pick;

  • Organic/biodynamic - sulfite-free wines or natural sulfites
  • Champagnes (YEAH)
  • Clear, unflavoured liquor like organic tequila, vodka & gin.

Avoid mixers, but if need be, pick ones with Stevia or natural sugars. I find that adding a lot of ginger & lemon or lime to a soda water does the trick.

#4: RELAX

There are so many ways to do this, we just need to make the time.

- Detox bath with salts & essential oils.

- Walk or hike with a friend & take the time to connect with mother nature.

- Read a good, inspiring book. Nothing stressful, my favorite author ever is Deepak Chopra. Get inspired.

#5: Be Thankful

We often focus on the half empty, but how about we enjoy every single moment of this time to celebrate life & all the love that surrounds us.

The holidays end so fast, but try to focus on the present & remind yourself that work is a way to express one of your personality traits, but that during this time, it is the loving side of you that needs to show up & there is no need to get stressed about work until it is time to go back.

Hope these help to stay well & happy.

Happy holidays.

Veronique

We present you the new Louve Partner – Alice

Let’s say that by letting me catch my breath for a few months, I’ve seen that Alice was a strong pillar for Louve.

I have said to myself a few times that soon, she won’t need me anymore, and everything will go smoothly, maybe even better!

And I’ll be able to travel and take care of my relatives.

If I had had a girl, I would have hoped that she would’ve been as perfect as Alice, to help me in the succession of my business, my baby Louve to whom I gave life.

From the point of view of a woman entrepreneur, this succession planning is an important step in the business, and is based on the fundamental values of Louve: durability. Durability in products, but also in business, to promote the movement of responsible fashion for future generations. I dream of the day when we will have 200 happy and accomplished employees across the globe. (OK, maybe I underestimated, but we feel the vibe).

It’s with pleasure that we share this announcement, and that we will keep you posted of future plans, because we’re here for you and because of you.

The 4 fundamental values of Louve, internally: integrity, transparency, respect and competence.

A few advantages of succession planning:

  • Harmonize values and solidify the spirit of belonging.
  • Include the team in growth management
  • Help employees in the career plans and professional aspirations within the organization
  • Improve the capacity of employees to respond to evolving environmental issues
  • Promote a culture built on knowledge transfer and continuous improvement

Succession planning is known as a key activity to ensure the durability of current jobs within the business.

I’ve been telling myself, by sustaining a stable growth like the last two years, in how long could Louve develop a market such as Europe… 10 years? OK, but when do I take my pre-retirement… lol

I have quickly understood that by planning the future, and making key roles shareholders of the business (Alice being the first), I would be ensuring the durability of Louve in time.

I don’t feel like a decipherer anymore, and I like this role!

It is like anticipating sticks in spokes. You never know what will block your path, so putting forward a succession plan , we fall in contingency planning to ensure the survival of the business in case of major changes. You never know, I might marry and become pregnant with twins in 2022, haha!

Raised by a strong-willed woman, Veronique Goulet grew up around the fashion industry. Wanting to be by her mother’s side, who to this day remains her biggest source of inspiration, she spent her childhood at her parents’ clothing manufacture and gradually developed skills with the sewing machine.

Despite her seamstress prowess, Vero’s strength has always been in the art of counting. She studied science in college and finished her university studies with a bachelor of administration. Dreaming of one day being able to open her own design company, when she was 19, she left for the Canadian West Coast to study at the Vancouver College of Art and Design. She remained in British Columbia for 8 years, working in the distribution sector of snowboarding clothing and accessories boutiques. During that time, Vero began to explore the beauty that is Canada and quickly became a fervent lover of nature. Then, as she returned to Québec, she went back to school at LaSalle College to develop her skills in fashion design.

In the early 2000s, following major changes in the textile industry, the family business was on its last mile. Determined to revive its flame, in 2009, Vero took the reins of the enterprise as an accountant and manager. At that moment, she saw a golden opportunity and founded her own brand that she named getfiberlashed.

Hi Vero! Tell us a little bit about your brand getfiberlashed. Where did the idea come from?
I started getfiberlashed, my own clothing brand, because I could never find what I wanted on the market. I began creating my own clothing to answer all of my needs. I have a background in fashion and grew up around the textile industry. My parents, to this day, own a clothing manufacture. It was sort of logical.

Why did you decide to open your own company on top of running your family’s business? You must have juggled a lot at the same time.
Indeed, it was pretty intense in the beginning! But my mom is my idol. I secretly always wanted to be like her. I wanted her to be proud of me. When I learned that the family business was suffering, I sort of made it my mission to save it. But I also had my own dreams. I lived in the Canadian West Coast for many years. I spent a lot of time in nature and it gave me the idea for getfiberlashed. When I took over my parents’ manufacture, I had this huge space, these sewing machines. It was a sign. I didn’t hesitate and simply jumped on the opportunity.

According to you, what are your company values?
The respect of nature and humanity. There!
For real, I would love to be able to help people understand that it’s possible to own a company and have its values be something other than just making profit. There exists such a thing as quality and respect. Why a product is made, how it’s made, to me, that is so much more important. I’m a social entrepreneur. If I’m able to inspire and encourage people to practise durability and mindfulness, my job is done.

You mention the term up cycling a lot. What is it exactly?
Upcycling is a term that means the action of recuperating materials and products that are no longer used. In the case of getfiberlashed, we take pieces of fabric from other companies that don’t need them anymore. Our clothes are 35% upcycling and we are very proud of it. We are also a zero waste company.

What’s your biggest dream for getfiberlashed?
That my clothes be accessible to women worldwide and that they wear each item with pride.

Indigenous Lives Matter Collection

As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st, and Indigenous History Month this June, we are partnering with Tla-o-qui-aht Nation’s Tribal Parks located in Tofino, British Columbia for a special collection. Louve Design is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of our Indigenous Lives Matter collection, designed by Indigenous artist Ivy Martin. Louve Design is 100% committed to creating sustainable and ethical clothing and with that, comes the responsibility to support the communities we live and work in.

The Tla-o-qui-aht Nation has a long history of working towards a sustainable future for generations to come and protecting the sacred relationship they’ve had with the land for over 5,000 years. The nation has a hard-fought history with logging companies protesting the protection of their home from ruin -- a stunning, ripe rainforest along coastal B.C.

Tribal Park’s battle to protect their land is long from being over. The caretakers and guardians of the land have set out to maintain the same pressure practiced by their elders to fight against governments imposing laws and destroying land that is rightfully theirs.

Helping salmon survive, building renewable energy sources and ensuring everyone has access to clean drinking water are all part of Tribal Park’s conservation efforts. Tla-o-qui-aht Nation aims to bring back the cultural protocols and teachings to live in balance. Not just sustainably, but abundantly as their ancestors did.

The Rieka collection is a sustainable, unisex, surf & skate brand inspired by the North Pacific coast. Tofino is home to Louve Design’s exclusive Rieka brand and as an expression of our gratitude, we hope you’ll join us in our mission to revitalize the biodiversity of this lush land.

Matriarch Movement Podcast Partnership

Over these past few weeks we've had the opportunity to support the Matriarch Movement podcast, an inspirational platform that shines a light on Indigenous women's voices and their stories. The Matriach Movement was founded and hosted by Shayla Oulette Stonechild, an Indigenous activist, yoga teacher, TV host.

As a Mètis and Nehiyaw Iskwew, a Plains Cree Woman, from Muscowpetung First Nations, Shayla Oulette Stonechild has always been a catalyst for Indigenous youth and women unlocking their full potential and reclaiming their voices. There is a powerful shift happening in humanity right now and Shayla believes the arts, meditation, movement and reclaiming an Indigenous worldview all play apart in amplifying voices to bring upon much needed change.

We are deeply inspired by Shayla’s strength and courage in leading the charge to elevate the Indigenous way of life within Turtle Island and beyond. Shayla tirelessly fights for Indigenous representation, accountability from colonizers, and protection of the land, water, plants and animals which is crucial in maintaining Indigenous sovereignty. Speaking to powerful Indigenous women on her Matriarch Movement podcast is just one of the many ways Shayla fights for what matters.

Tune in to Matriarch Movement to learn about Indigenous heritage & culture and the best way to be an ally towards Indigenous women across Canada.

https://getfiberlashed.com/blogs/the-story/run-with-the-wolves 2020-03-28T16:47:00-04:00 2021-05-19T15:26:59-04:00 Run with the wolves Veronique Goulet

The name getfiberlashed did not come out of the blue. It was inspired by the fiercely elegant Gray Wolf, a canine native of the North American wilderness. Louve is the French term for wolf. Both graceful and powerful, we feel a strong connection to this animal and carry its spirit with us in everything that we do. Its soul is and forever will be at the heart of our brand. Here’s why.

Wolves are the epitomes of what it means to be wild and free. They crave freedom more than anything else and live their authentic lives with passion and intensity. Almost impossible to domesticate, they are intelligent creatures with sharp instincts and have an acute sense of awareness when it comes to social relationships. Wolves coexist in structured societies called packs and are extremely committed to those they love. Loyal, they are family-oriented and have incredible communication skills. Moreover, they’ve formed a strong bond with their natural habitat and have a profound respect for their environment. Sometimes considered the kings of the forest, they’ve made the mountains their home and protect their territory with all their might.

“Those born with Wolf medicine in their soul simply understand how to help balance the world and aid in the creation of a more fertile and abundant ecosystem for all.”
—What Is My Spirit Animal.com

These characteristics are exactly what we look for in our targeted clientele. As a socially responsible company of the ethical fashion industry, we strive to provide high-quality products to strong female figures who have a thirst for life and thrilling adventures. We offer our clothing to inspiring, bold, unique and authentic women and encourage them to live a healthy and active lifestyle all the while respecting nature. Our garments, comfortable, versatile and trendy, allow these carefully selected individuals to run with the wolves in the mountainous forests, as well as be amongst the common mortals in big cities, holding their own and staying true to themselves.

Like the wolf, we care about the environment and have made it a mission of ours to do whatever we can to protect and restore its beauty. Only using eco-responsible products made out of recycled materials and fabrics, we try to keep our carbon footprint at its lowest. We take great pride in the clothes that we sell and know that the women who wear them feel the same. We don’t fit the industry standards, but that’s what makes us so special, one-of-a-kind. We’ve never been afraid to chase our dreams. We strive to be leaders in our field and hope that like-minded people will follow in our footsteps.

So, what are you waiting for? Be loyal to your instincts and join our pack!

Forever and always running wild and free,
getfiberlashed
